Rather than type, speak the query. Searchers won't click -- they will swipe, touch or gesture. These expressions of intent on search engines or in applications will become the means by which people find and access information on Google, Bing and Yahoo, as well as Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. ...Read the whole story

In a bizarre string of events that began with a Manhattan car accident and ended with one of its victims pitching a conference full of online metrics industry leaders, a new trade organization was born to focus on the so-called "analytics economy." The organization, ARO (sounds like arrow) stands for the Analytics Research Organization, and is intended to fill a void not being covered by existing ad industry research organizations. ...Read the whole story

It now expects Facebook global sales to grow 64% to $6.1 billion this year, up from $3.7 billion in 2011. The firm had previously estimated its 2011 revenue at $4.3 billion. eMarketer also predicts that the social network’s share of all U.S. display ad revenue will grow to 16.8% in 2012 from 14% last year. Close on its heels will be Google, claiming 16.5% of the display ad market, up from 13.8% in 2011. The ...More

The latest obsession on the Web, judging by Facebook news feed density (which is a pretty good judge of such things), is what others do for a living -- or, rather, what everyone and their mother (literally) thinks they do. Writer. Psychiatrist. Director. Radio DJ. Executive Chef. Now we have a nice, graphical (and super-ironic) way to describe these job functions. After waiting a week to see if anyone in our corner of the world would take the bait, my team went ahead and created the Search Engine Marketer meme. At the risk of beating a dead horse, I'd like ...More

The privacy advocates asked for a court order requiring the FTC to take action against Google before it changes its policy. The FTC, not surprisingly, isn't thrilled that EPIC is seeking a court order against the agency. In papers filed on Friday, the FTC says that outside groups like EPIC shouldn't get to weigh in on the decision about whether to bring an enforcement action. ...More
